Looking at this blog and seeing that my last post was about the Philippines feels fairly bizarre. I suppose it really has been a healthy amount of time since then, but it almost seems like another life. One reason for this is how busy I’ve been since returning, as I try to juggle a host of creative pursuits with the inevitable workload that comes with the beginning of the new school year.
On the creative side, I’m hard at work typing my novel and editing a bit along the way. The decision to handwrite it was to some extent necessary, as my free time available for writing usually didn’t coincide with computer access, but I don’t think I’ll ever try that again. Typing 350-odd pages… takes awhile. As for the product itself, I alternate between liking and hating it, so large-scale edits are likely in order. It’ll be awhile before it’s fit for human consumption.
Besides that and the usual amount of time editing and writing for MovieBoozer demands, I’m also tackling a script idea with a buddy of mine here and looking into teaming with a very talented photographer in my area on some travel pieces for a Seoul magazine. At some point I need to give some shrift to my long-dormant poetry as well.
Outside of writing, baseball is in the air, and I have a couple of fantasy leagues I’m involved in, as well as potentially playing for a foreigners team that’s part of a large Sunday morning Korean league based in a town 45 minutes away. I’m also doing my level best to learn more than token Korean, and finally got around to learning how to read and write in Hangeul- the Korean alphabet. That’s somewhat less impressive than it sounds- with a couple of hours you can as well.
Oh, did I mention that I now have a girlfriend? Yeah, life is busy, but I’m not complaining.
